Şirinler/Smurfs
Do you remember the smurfs? Those tiny little creatures we used to love and watch with excitement when we weere kids. You will not believe but there are conspiracy theories even about the smurfs that the smurfs is not just a cartoon. According to the theory, the children’s series is not just a cartoon but essentially represents a communist state. Moreover, according to the theory, the Word ‘S M U R F’ is an acronym for ‘Socialist Men Under the Red Father.’ Remember that Karl Marx was fond of color red, maybe the theory becomes more sensible. However, this Word comes originally from French, which shakes off the theory a little.
Nevertheless, lets dig deeper into the conspiracy. There is no currency in the Smurf village. They function in a collectivist society without any Money. Each smurf works for the common good. They are self-sufficient in runnign their own community. The Smurf Village yet has an enemy, Gargamel… the greedy, ruthless, old sod represents capitalism, who is only concerned with his personal gain. He is what happens when the individual esteems herself higher than he fellows in the society. Moreover, there is no religion, too, in the Smurf Village.
So, conspiracy theorists claim that the Smurfs aspired to influence and lure kids into communism with these undertones during the Cold War. But Péyo, the creator of the Smurfs says: “This is just a cartoon with no concern for deeper meaning as you believe.”
